Sailor Moon
I’ve wanted to cosplay Sailor Moon ever since I saw it on Toonami when I was 10 years old. I was absolutely obsessed with the show as a kid, so it was really a dream come true getting to portray Usagi! I had a ton of fun with this!
This was originally done for Anime Expo 2010 and was meant to be part of a large group with all of the characters. Unfortunately, we underestimated the time it would take to finish everyone’s costumes, and only a few of us got ours finished.
The group is still on hold and may be finished someday. This costume never got fully finished, either – we finished it at 8:00 am the day of, and made an executive decision to leave out some details. Hopefully when the group finally comes together, I can show off an updated version!
This costume would not have been possible without the help of my friends. Much of the patterning and sewing was actually done by friends of mine (we were originally attempting to do the sailor scout’s uniforms in an assembly line fashion) so I can not take credit for the entire costume, it was very much a group effort.
The leotard was based off a standard leotard pattern and altered to include the skirt, hip roll, and sleeves. The bows, underskirts and collars are all silk charmeuse. The leotard is super stretch spandex. The skirts are layers of silk, organza, and glitter tulle from bottom to top.
The brooches are one half of a clear plastic heart Christmas ornament painted from the inside and covered in Swarovski crystals.
